RDIEA Homestay is for international students who are fourteen years of age and older or entering grade eight. Students will have the opportunity to live with carefully screened families in a safe, caring, mid sized community of the City of Red Deer.
We offer:
• Reputable, carefully selected Red Deer families
• Comfortable, safe Homestay homes with a private bedroom
• Our homestays always have easy access to public transportation
• Support and guidance for students from in school counsellors
• Support of a Homestay Coordinator from the Red Deer International Education Alliance. (RDIEA)
Fees 2011-12
• $500 Homestay Placement Fee ( one time fee)
• $700 per month
• $25 per night for extra nights
It will be the responsibility of the Homestay Family to:
• Utilize their caring and nurturing talents to make their new family member feel accepted as part of their family unit.
• Provide healthy, nutritious meals and snacks (while adhering to necessary diet restrictions) to ensure physical wellness.
• Provide opportunities to mix, mingle and promote social development
• Provide time for spiritual reflection.
• Provide a private bedroom for their student containing a bed, closet, dresser and desk with a lamp and chair.
• Provide academic support by:
-Arranging for tutors, should the need arise;
-Attending parent/teacher interviews;
-Providing Internet services or library access;
-Providing quiet time for study;
-Ensuring that students arrive at school on time.
• To help students to better understand Canadian culture.
In order to become a Host Family for International Students the families are carefully screened by our homestay co-ordinator. In addition they must:
• complete the Host Family Application Form
• provide an Intervention Record Check for each adult in the household from
Provincial Department of Child Welfare
• provide a Criminal Record Check for each adult in the household from the local police
